North Gundagai Cemetery
The Heraldry & Genealogy Society of Canberra Inc. Transcripts
The North Gundagai Cemetery seems not to have been used until the late 1850's, the earliest headstone being that of Charlotte Phillips (Anglican Section), daughter of John Richard Patrick and Catherine (nee Akers) who was born at Campbelltown in 1822 and who died at Gundagai on 11 July 1858 aged 36 yrs. Just inside the gate of the Catholic section is a headstone commemorating Yarri, the aboriginal hero of the 1852 flood, who is buried in the cemetery, though the exact place is not known. The headstone was erected by the Tumut-Brungle Aboriginal Land Council, and was unveiled by the Hon. Nick Greiner, Premier of New South Wales on 7 September, 1990.
