There are two graves on the Island that are over 100 years old.

Miss Phoebe Jane Phillips was the daughter of one of the lighthouse keepers James David Phillips and his wife Emma. Phoebe caught a cold which developed into pneumonia. Due to the remote location with no medical attention (stores ships at that time only called to the island once every month and were often late) Phoebe sadly passed away on 2 nd August 1896 at only 30 years old.

The other grave is Susannah McKee (nee Stevenson), the wife of lighthouse keeper Thomas McKee. Susannah passed away 23 rd April 1907 at 59 years old after the youngest of their four sons left the island. Sussanah suffered from severe loneliness and is thought to have drowned intentionally.

The ghost of Susannah – there are tales of hearing Susannah's footsteps inside the lighthouse keepers cottages and making appearances to the lighthouse keepers and island staff.
