Old Adelaide Gaol Cemetery
18 Gaol Road
The Law requires that all executed prisoners must be buried inside the goal. They are buried in the ground between the outer and inner wall, also next to “A” wing, just outside the Gallows door. People who died of natural causes were buried in a conventional cemetery outside the goal. Number, initals and the date of the hanging are painted on the walls indicating the place of burial. A total of 45 people are recorded as buried after hanging within the goal, but only 34 of these have marked graves.
