It wasn't until seven years after the town of Poochera was proclaimed that a cemetery was begun.

It was Mr. Robert Francey who cleared the land and dug the first grave down as the ground was incredibly stony in the northern section. This process could take up to a full day. He also cleared the road leading to the cemetery. In 1945, the new, or southern section of the cemetery was started when Bob McCann died. Graves in this section only take about an hour to dig.

The oldest person in the Cemetery is Mr Seth Joy who died in 1986 at the impressive age of 98, the youngest being Eugene Patrick McCormack and Douglas Robert Francey who both lived for just three days.
