In the early years this area was called Gum Flat,
it being one of the few places on the Yorke Peninsula where large trees grew. There was an aboriginal well in the vicinty which the natives called 'Minlacowie' which meant 'Sweet Water'. The original part of the cemetery was also known as 'Gum Flat Cemetery'. |
