Baby Desmond Renshaw does not have a headstone
Roberts

John

the son of Thomas and Hannah nee
Webb.
He arrived in South Australia
with parents and brother William, in June1839 aboard “Sir
Charles Forbes”. He lived with his parents at – Lot 45 Section
(1
George Street Thebarton) Adelaide from July 1839
to 1854 –then Section 2147 Fifth Creek, Montacute, --- then in 1847 Section
2156 Golden Grove, (Greenwith Farm nowadays, 2007) His father Thomas Roberts
died 1857, so we can only assume John remained at Golden Grove working with his
younger brothers, I have read many years ago of a John Roberts owing land at
Cobbler’s Creek, but as there were so many Roberts families in the area it is
not correct to surmise which J. Roberts.
On
8-8-1871 John married
Elizabeth Charlotte Jane Gilmore at Chambers Church Adelaide, he was 40 years, Elizabeth aged 19years, the daughter of John Gilmore.
Ten
children were born to this couple. John Roberts built the Rocky
River School; the
ruins can be seen across the Rocky River,
north of the family home. The Roberts home served as a Post Office for some
years.
John
Roberts died at home 17-8-1917
aged 87 years
His
property is now owned by John Kirchner and mother Joan, the original Roberts
home is still in use -- a well cared for
Piggery!
John,
his wife Elizabeth Roberts, son Archibald, and daughter Janet Rowe are buried
in the Narridy Cemetery,
all have headstones.
Roberts
Elizabeth Charlotte Jane
Elizabeth
Gilmore was the daughter of John Waterfall Gilmore and Agnes nee Russell, born
on the ship “Charlotte Jane” 1851 on the way to South
Australia from Scotland.
I have not researched her S.A.
life from 1851 to her marriage to John in 1871. Elizabeth
was the mother of ---
Rosina
Agnes (1. James Thomas and 2. Widowed John Nicolson)
Lavinia
Charlotte (Edwin Rowe)
Janet
May (Arthur Rowe, brother of Edwin, farmers of Narridy, Redhill
Rd)
Arnold
John Russell (Emma Wood)
Herbert
Emmanuel (Ada Tucker)
Osmond
Gilmore single

Gertrude
“Lillian”. The twins did not marry and were well known for their teaching of
sewing, at their Rocky River home
and in Crystal Brook, they retired to Gawler.
Elizabeth
Roberts died at Adelaide 6-1-1931 I assume she was living with
her family
Roberts
Archibald Thomas was born at home 26-2-1887 son of John Roberts and Elizabeth
Charlotte Jane nee Gilmore. Archibald would have been born in the old Roberts

He
attended the Rocky River School
built by his father.
Archibald
Roberts died at Crystal Brook
Hospital 22-3-1930

her father built, across the River with her siblings.
On
31-5-1899 at her parents home she married Arthur John Pascoe Rowe, farmer of
Narridy. This home is now the Kirchner family pigs
residence!
I
can only assume Janet and Arthur lived on the land his father purchased, on the
road to Redhill, purchased in later years by Bruce Smart.
Janet
and Arthur John Rowe had one son (whom married Lilly Hurrell), sadly
Janet
died 15-10-1910. aged 34 years.

has a headstone near her brother, Archibald and parents John and Elizabeth.
